Calculation method

How the Lithuania salary calculator works

The monthly NPD is calculated from gross employment income. A standard resident receives up to €747 when monthly gross pay does not exceed €1,153. Above that level, the calculator uses: €747 − 0.49 × (gross salary − €1,153). The result cannot fall below zero or exceed the salary.

Monthly income tax is 20% of gross salary after NPD. Employee deductions then include 19.5% social and health insurance plus an optional 3% second-pillar pension contribution. Employer cost adds the selected unemployment, accident-risk and fund rates, together with any optional MMA contribution-floor top-up.

The annual estimate applies 20% up to 36 VDU, 25% between 36 and 60 VDU, and 32% above 60 VDU. It also limits state social-insurance contributions other than compulsory health insurance to the 2026 ceiling of €138,729.

Common questions

Lithuania salary calculator FAQs

What is Lithuania’s salary income tax rate in 2026?+

Employers generally withhold 20% from monthly taxable salary after NPD. At annual level, the tax rate is 20% up to €83,237.40, 25% from €83,237.40 to €138,729, and 32% on the portion above €138,729.

How is the standard monthly NPD calculated?+

The maximum is €747 when monthly gross employment income is no more than €1,153. Above that amount, NPD equals €747 minus 0.49 multiplied by the difference between gross salary and €1,153. It reaches zero at approximately €2,677.49.

What NPD applies to people with a participation level?+

The calculator provides fixed monthly NPD options of €1,127 for a 0–25% participation level and €1,057 for a 30–55% participation level, capped at the monthly salary.

What employee contribution rate does the calculator use?+

The standard employee social and compulsory health-insurance rate is 19.5%. A second-pillar pension participant generally contributes an additional 3% of gross salary.

Why does the employer rate change?+

Employer contributions depend on whether the contract is permanent or fixed-term, the employer’s occupational accident-risk group, and whether Guarantee Fund and Long-term Employment Fund contributions apply. A standard private employer with a permanent contract and group I risk has a 1.77% rate.

What is the MMA contribution floor?+

When monthly gross pay is below the €1,153 MMA, an employer may need to pay both employee and employer social-insurance contributions on the shortfall from its own funds. Statutory exemptions include certain multiple-employer, pension and age situations, so the option is disabled by default.

How does the annual contribution ceiling work?+

For 2026, state social-insurance contributions are generally capped at 60 VDU, or €138,729. Compulsory health-insurance contributions continue above that amount. The annual estimate models this split assuming the same salary for all 12 months.

Can a non-resident use this calculator?+

Yes. The non-resident profile removes the Lithuanian resident NPD. Tax treaties, EU social-security coordination and individual residence facts can change the actual treatment.

Why might my payslip differ?+

Differences can result from bonuses, several employers, NPD requests, benefits in kind, contribution-floor exemptions, cumulative contribution ceilings, cross-border work and employer payroll rounding.
