How the Latvia salary calculator works
For monthly payroll, employee social-insurance contributions are calculated first. The calculator then subtracts the applicable non-taxable minimum, dependent allowance and additional registered allowance from the remaining salary-tax base.
Monthly salary income tax is calculated at 25.5%. Net salary equals gross salary minus employee social insurance and monthly salary tax. Employer cost adds employer social insurance, the €0.36 business-risk fee and any optional estimated minimum-contribution top-up.
The annual check assumes the same salary for 12 months. It applies 25.5% to annual taxable income up to €105,300, 33% to the excess, and an additional 3% to annual income above €200,000. For non-residents, the annual adjustment is not estimated because worldwide income and eligibility information are unavailable.

What is Latvia’s salary income tax rate in 2026?+
Employers generally withhold 25.5% from monthly taxable salary. At annual level, 25.5% applies up to €105,300 of annual taxable income and 33% applies to the portion above that threshold. An additional 3% applies to annual income over €200,000.
How does the €550 non-taxable minimum work?+
The standard minimum is €550 per month or €6,600 per year. It is normally applied by the employer that holds the employee’s electronic payroll tax booklet. Set it to zero when the employer does not apply it.
How are dependents included?+
Each eligible registered dependent provides a €250 monthly tax allowance. The allowance reduces taxable salary but cannot reduce the monthly taxable base below zero.
What social-insurance rates does the calculator use?+
The standard 2026 rates are 10.5% for the employee and 23.59% for the employer. For an employee who has reached pension age and receives an old-age pension, the calculator offers the reduced 9.25% employee and 20.77% employer rates.
What is the €0.36 employer fee?+
Latvian employers generally pay a monthly business-risk state fee of €0.36 for each employee covered by the relevant employment rules. It is included in the employer-cost result.
Why is there a minimum-contribution option?+
The 2026 minimum monthly contribution base is €780. Actual minimum contribution rules are assessed across quarters and can consider several employers, calendar days and statutory exemptions. The optional calculator estimate is therefore only a simple full-month, single-employer approximation.
Why can annual tax differ from monthly withholding?+
Monthly salary tax is withheld at 25.5%, while the annual progressive calculation applies a 33% rate above the annual threshold and a further 3% above €200,000 of annual income. Rounding and other income can also create a payable amount or refund.
Can a non-resident use this calculator?+
Yes. The standard non-resident profile removes resident monthly allowances. Some EU or EEA residents can claim relief through an annual return if Latvian income meets statutory conditions, and treaty or social-security rules can change the result.
Why might my actual payslip be different?+
Payroll differences can result from irregular bonuses, several employers, absence, benefits, tax-book changes, special social-insurance categories, cross-border work, pension treatment, annual adjustments and payroll-software rounding.
